Climbing in Hueco Tanks

Climbers come from far and wide to climb on the granite like rock of Hueco Tanks.

My family and I Had visited here once before and now we were back after three years. Hueco Tanks is my favorite bouldering spot I have ever visited, and that’s why I was so exited when I heard my mom and dad were able to reserve a campsite for a week.

My dad, brother, and I hiked up the trail to North Mountain which is the only mountain in the park that doesn’t require you to have a guided tour. But as I looked around at all the the different climbs I thought this is like a climbing gym because there was routes everywhere cracks, overhangs, slab, and face climbs. As I walked up the path I spotted Nobody Gets Out Alive in my opinion the best V2 of all time. I looked at it’s overhanging face full of jug holds. But it’s the crux move that makes it deserve its V2 rating. The crux is the lip where it goes from a overhang to a vertical face. The key to getting over the lip is a heal hook far out to the left that you can use the pull yourself far enough up to reach the crimps on the face.

My first ever ascent of Nobody gets out Alive was when I was eleven. But I came to conquer it again three years later as a fourteen year old.

From Icarus boulder to top of the world Hueco Tanks has something for everybody. Just make sure to be carful of the ancient petroglyphs that were drawn by the native Americans that used the area for hunting.
